About The Event
This fall, newcomer voices will light up the stage in Selkirk, Manitoba—sharing powerful stories of migration, memory, and belonging during the annual Holiday Alley Festival.
The Selkirk Newcomer Storytelling Café is a creative storytelling and performance program designed to help newcomer residents craft and share their personal narratives in front of a live audience. Through a series of workshops, participants will explore writing, expression, and performance techniques in a supportive and culturally safe environment—guided by experienced StoryBridge facilitators.
The performance is typically followed by a facilitated community learning/talk-back session. All are invited.
Recruitment Opens Summer 2025
We’ll soon begin recruiting newcomer participants from Selkirk and nearby communities. No previous writing, storytelling, or performance experience is needed—just a willingness to share a meaningful story from your journey. Workshops will begin in fall 2025, leading up to a special live performance during Holiday Alley, Selkirk's premier arts and culture festival.
