Board Treasurer and Director, Fundraising & Social Enterprise

  • Program or Area: Governance – Board of Directors

  • Location / Format: Hybrid (primarily in-person meetings and events in Winnipeg with occasional online meetings or hybrid events)

  • Supervisor: Board Chair

  • Start Date: September 2026

  • Term Length: Two years, with the possibility of renewal in accordance with the organization's bylaws and policies.

  • Estimated Time Commitment: Approximately 5–10 hours per month, including preparation for and attendance at board meetings.

The StoryBridge Network is a community-driven organization that uses storytelling and creative expression to foster resilience, inclusion, and social change. Through workshops, storytelling programs, and community partnerships, StoryBridge creates spaces where diverse lived experiences can be shared and valued.

StoryBridge operates using a collaborative leadership model in which volunteers contribute meaningfully to programs, projects, and organizational development.

Role Purpose

The Board Treasurer helps ensure the organization's governance and financial compliance by managing the administration of the corporation’s financial documents, including tax filing, banking and finance, and serving as a liaison with auditors, accountants, and bookkeepers on behalf of the organization.

Strong governance is essential to the sustainability of community organizations, and it plays a critical role in ensuring that StoryBridge’s decisions, policies, and records are clearly documented for current and future leadership.

This role also protects StoryBridge's financial sustainability by overseeing the Fundraising & Social Enterprise portfolio and helping the board think strategically about funding diversity and sustainability, and working with the Executive Director to explore and evaluate earned revenue opportunities aligned with the organization’s mission.​

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

  • Working with bookkeepers and accountants to prepare financial reports for approval at board and Class A members' meetings. 

  • Supervising or leading the organization's tax registration, filing, and auditing process

  • Collecting and sharing corporate financial and tax compliance documents with the Board Secretary & Records Officer

  • Keeping the board aware of our financial health in simple terms

  • Fostering sponsorships, partnerships, and donor relationships

  • Ensuring fundraising and revenue initiatives are ethical and transparent and that earned revenue opportunities are aligned with the organization’s mission

Skills and Qualities

This role is well-suited to someone who is organized, detail-oriented, and interested in nonprofit governance.

Helpful qualities may include:

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills

  • Attention to detail

  • A background in bookkeeping and/or accounting

  • A background or interest in business management, entrepreneurship, or fundraising

  • Reliability and discretion when handling confidential information

  • Interest in nonprofit governance and community initiatives

 

Prior board experience is helpful but not required.

Support and Collaboration

The Board Secretary and Records Officer work closely with the Board Chair and other board members.

Upon completion of the role, volunteers may receive a reference letter describing their contributions and skills developed.

Board members are expected to uphold StoryBridge’s policies and values, including respect for participants, staff, and fellow volunteers.

Board members must maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive organizational information and discussions. 

Attendance at board meetings and Class A members' meetings is mandatory. Board members are expected to attend StoryBridge events, serve on event-planning committees, purchase tickets to StoryBridge events, and support StoryBridge's fundraising efforts.
