LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Locating Ourselves in Treaty Territory

The StoryBridge Network is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering marginalized voices through storytelling and creative expression. Our office is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba - Treaty One Territory.

Our Land Acknowledgement

At The StoryBridge Network, we acknowledge that we operate on Treaty 1 territory—the traditional lands of the Anishinaabe (Ojibway), Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and the homeland of the Métis Nation. We also recognize that the source of our water is Shoal Lake 39 First Nation, situated in Treaty 3 territory.

We are committed to understanding our role in the ongoing history of these lands and working towards reconciliation. We believe that connecting to the land, its people, and their stories is essential for building a just and sustainable future for all. This commitment is woven into our operational practices and programming, where we integrate calls for respect, engagement, understanding, and action.

Our Alignment with TRC Calls to Action

Our mission and programs resonate with several of the  Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) Calls to Action, particularly those emphasizing education, cultural revitalization, and community engagement:

  • Call to Action #10: Advocates for the development of culturally appropriate curricula, which we support through storytelling that, as best as possible, honors and includes Indigenous experiences and perspectives.

  • Call to Action #66: Calls for multi-year funding for community-based youth organizations to deliver programs on reconciliation. Our youth-focused storytelling initiatives aim to foster understanding and healing.

  • Call to Action #93: Encourages the inclusion of information about Indigenous history and rights in newcomer education. We incorporate these elements into our programs to educate and engage newcomers.

By aligning our work with these Calls to Action, we strive to contribute meaningfully to concrete and constructive action that improves the present and future relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
