Service Description

Are you a newcomer to Selkirk and District? Join us for a free 8-week workshop series that helps you find your voice, share your story, and connect with community. Stories connect us to one another, and every voice has value. Taking Root: A Selkirk and District Newcomer Storytelling Café is an 8-week workshop program designed to support newcomers in sharing personal stories of growth, belonging, and resilience. Through writing and performance coaching with Patlee Creary (Reyou Mindfulness Collective) and Rachel E. Smith (Celee Productions), participants will develop and rehearse their stories in a supportive group setting. The program culminates in a public storytelling performance—part of Holiday Alley, Selkirk’s annual festival of light, art, sound, creativity, and cultures. No prior experience needed. Free to join. Honorarium provided.
