Learn to facilitate storytelling experiences that foster belonging, ethical dialogue, and meaningful community connection.

The StoryBridge Community Storytelling Facilitator Certification prepares facilitators, educators, and community leaders to guide storytelling circles, workshops, and dialogue-based storytelling experiences using ethical and trauma-sensitive storytelling practices.

Participants develop practical facilitation skills while learning the StoryBridge Method, a framework that integrates lived experience storytelling, ethical listening, and community dialogue.

Participants progress through a dual entry entry learning pathway that develops storytelling facilitation skills and practical experience for new facilitators and seasoned practitioners.

Level 1

Trauma-Sensitive Facilitation Foundations

For New and Developing Facilitators

 

This introductory training explores the principles of ethical storytelling facilitation and trauma-sensitive engagement.

Participants learn how to create storytelling environments where individuals feel safe sharing lived experiences and engaging in respectful dialogue.

Topics include:

  • Foundations of ethical storytelling

  • Trauma-sensitive facilitation practices

  • Creating safe storytelling environments

  • Listening and dialogue practices

    • Friday, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM (Central/Winnipeg Time)

    • August 14, 330 St. Mary Ave, Winnipeg, Manitoba​

  • (Online/2.5 hours per week) 

    • Wednesday, 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM (Central/Winnipeg Time)

    • April 14 - 28, 2026, Online via Zoom

Level 2

Narrative Empowerment & Client Agency

For Experienced Facilitators (and Level 1 Graduates)

 

This intermediate training develops participants’ ability to guide storytelling circles and workshops.

Participants explore storytelling frameworks and learn how to support individuals in developing personal stories.

Topics include:

  • Storytelling frameworks and narrative development

  • Facilitating storytelling circles and workshops

  • Supporting participants in shaping personal narratives

  • Guiding dialogue following storytelling

Participants also develop a short personal story during the training to experience the storytelling process from the participant perspective.

    • Thursday and Friday, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM (Central/Winnipeg Time)

Level 3

Responsive & Inclusive Program Design

For Graduates of Level 2

 

Participants in this course will learn to design and facilitate their own storytelling or community engagement initiative as a practicum project. ​This allows participants to apply their learning while receiving one-on-one feedback and guidance.

Certification requirements include:

  • a practicum storytelling event or workshop

  • a facilitation reflection report

  • participant feedback from the practicum program

 

Participants who complete the program receive the designation:

StoryBridge Certified Community Storytelling Facilitator

Certification is valid for three years and may be renewed through continuing education. Facilitators who complete the StoryBridge certification are included in our network of trauma-aware storytelling and dialogue facilitators.

  • Online Only/2.5 hours per week) 

    • Wednesday, 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM (Central/Winnipeg Time)

    • January 20 - March 17, 2027, Online via Zoom

The StoryBridge Method

The certification program is grounded in The StoryBridge Method, a facilitation framework that emphasizes:

  • Lived experience as expertise

  • Trauma-sensitive storytelling practices

  • Ethical listening and dialogue

  • Storytelling as a catalyst for connection and understanding

Participants learn how to design storytelling programs using the StoryBridge Story Cycle:

Prepare → Explore → Share → Reflect → Extend

This approach ensures storytelling experiences support both personal reflection and meaningful community dialogue.

Training Format

Training cohorts are delivered in small-group learning environments that support active participation and peer learning.

Program features include:

  • Live interactive training sessions

  • Storytelling exercises and reflection activities

  • Facilitation practice opportunities

  • Peer dialogue and collaborative learning

  • Practicum project support

 

Training is delivered primarily online, with occasional in-person workshops depending on location and partnerships.

Level 3 Certification 

Individuals who successfully complete Level 3 Facilitator Training are eligible to be certified as a StoryBridge Certified Facilitator. This certification is valid for three years and includes access to ongoing training and mentorship in storytelling facilitation and program design.

Certified facilitators may renew their certification by completing a refresher training that introduces new practices, facilitation strategies, and learning related to storytelling and community dialogue.
