Executive Leadership

Dr. Patlee Creary

Executive Director & Senior Consultant

Dr. Patlee Creary is the co-founder and Executive Director of The StoryBridge Network, where she leads the development of storytelling programs, community dialogue initiatives, and facilitator training that amplify lived experience and strengthen belonging.

A social entrepreneur and educator, Patlee holds a doctorate in Peace and Conflict Studies and is a certified higher education teacher. Her facilitation approach integrates storytelling practice, community development frameworks, adult learning theory, and trauma-aware engagement methods.

Patlee has worked extensively with newcomers, youth, educators, and nonprofit organizations to create inclusive spaces where people can explore identity, share their stories, and build meaningful connections across cultures and generations.

Through StoryBridge, she is committed to helping communities transform lived experience into dialogue, understanding, and social change.

Board of Directors

StoryBridge is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who provide strategic leadership and oversight for the organization.

Board members bring diverse experience in education, health, arts, aviation, social work, community development, and social justice advocacy. Together they help guide the organization’s mission and ensure that StoryBridge programs remain grounded in community needs and values.

Brian Creary

Director/Board Chair

Originally from Jamaica, Brian served in the Jamaica Defence Force, where he helped establish the Caribbean Military Academy School of Aviation—the first of its kind in the English-speaking Caribbean. Since moving to Canada in 2010, he has continued his career in aviation as a flight instructor and training program manager. Brian's travels and community involvement have deepened his interest in how personal stories shape identity and connection. A devoted reader of first-person narratives, he is passionate about creating space for diverse voices and proudly supports StoryBridge’s mission to build belonging through storytelling.

Rachel E. Smith

Director-at-Large

Rachel is a multi-disciplinary artist and educator whose work bridges the worlds of performance and personal development. She brings expertise in storytelling, acting, and public speaking, offering tools that help our participants build confidence and stage presence. Her work as a coach and consultant helps strengthen our ability to deliver trauma-informed, expressive arts programming that is both empowering and skill-building. With Rachel’s guidance, StoryBridge remains a space where creative transformation becomes a path to self-expression and connection.

Chantella Morgan-Peart

Director-At-Large

Chantella brings more than twelve years of social work leadership with Jamaica’s Ministry of Labour and Social Security, alongside experience as a Case Worker & Donor Care Representative at Siloam Mission, public school Board Member, Trainer/Supervisor for the Electoral Commission of Jamaica, CPHR Awards Gala Committee Member, and Student Ambassador. She holds a BA in Social Work and a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management.

SJ Nesbitt

Director/Board Secretary

SJ’s approach to leadership is grounded in community care, accessibility, and creativity. With deep experience supporting seniors, neurodivergent individuals, and arts-based community initiatives, she brings an intergenerational and inclusive perspective to our board. As a storyteller, musician, and operations strategist, SJ is committed to making space for people to be fully themselves—and to feel supported in sharing their truths however they choose to express them.

Lisa Houtkooper

Director-at-Large

Lisa Houtkooper is a registered nurse with over 30 years of healthcare experience, currently working at the Occupational Health Centre in Winnipeg. She holds a Master of Nursing and a certificate in leadership development from Mediation Services. Passionate about fostering psychologically safe workplaces and supporting equity-deserving communities, Lisa focuses on building the capacity of workers, workplaces, and communities to promote health, dignity, and safety. As a workplace mindfulness facilitator and de-escalation trainer, she brings deep compassion and insight to her work and is proud to contribute to StoryBridge’s mission of healing and connection through storytelling.

Monique Burke

Director-at-Large

Monique is the Newcomer Services Coordinator for the Winnipeg School Division. With over 15 years of experience in newcomer settlement, education, and program development, she brings a holistic and compassionate lens to our leadership. Her work has focused on supporting school transitions, youth leadership, and community inclusion for immigrants and refugees. As both an educator and artist, Monique understands the importance of belonging, creativity, and culturally responsive care. Her leadership helps ensure our programs meet the diverse needs of newcomers with empathy and impact.

Hafiz Jatto

Director-At-Large

Hafiz is a policy-minded community advocate based in Winnipeg, utilizing stories and critical discourse to promote anti-racist, equitable outcomes. Hafiz holds a Labour Studies degree (University of Manitoba) and a Project Management Certificate (Red River College). Their roles have spanned the Manitoba Association of Newcomer Serving Organizations, the City of Winnipeg, Manitoba’s Occupational Health Centre, and the Social Planning Council of Winnipeg.

Volunteer Leaders

StoryBridge programs are supported by a growing network of volunteer leaders who help guide projects, events, and community initiatives.

Volunteer leadership roles may include:

  • Program leads

  • Community engagement facilitators

  • Project coordinators

  • Event organizers

  • Communications and outreach leaders

As StoryBridge programs continue to expand, this section will highlight the volunteers who help bring our storytelling initiatives to life.
